John W. Kern, 68, of Hanover Twp., died at home, Sunday morning, December 10, 2017.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of Isabelle McLaughlin Kern, of Larksville and the late Herbert J. Kern, Sr. and was a graduate of West Hazleton High School. John was employed as a mechanic for Jack Williams and Kost Tire, prior to retirement and was an avid NY Yankees baseball fan. He served his country proudly in the United States Marines, with the rank of Corporal, during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal; combat Action Ribbon; Vietnamese Service Medal with 3 stars and the Vietnamese Campaign Medal with device.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his father, by his wife, Nancy Jane Austra Kern and brother, Herbert J. Kern, Jr.
He is survived by his children John Kern Jr., Stroudsburg; Cindy Kern, Nanticoke; David Kern, Wilkes-Barre; Jaclyn Harrison, Wilkes-Barre; step children, William Price, Wilkes-Barre and Margaret Ann Young, Hanover Twp. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Joseph Kern, Larksville; sisters, Theresa Kern, Stroudsburg, Yvonne Stone, Nanticoke and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 11:00 am from the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson Street, Larksville with entombment, with Military Honors, in St. Marys Cemetery, Hanover Township. Pastor David Hossage of Bloomingdale Bible Church will officiate.
Friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 4 to 6 pm and Wednesday morning from 10:30 am until time of service.
