Walter “Sonny” Rynkiewicz, of Larksville, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Walter and Helen Plevel Rynkiewicz. He graduated from Larksville High School and soon after joined the US Navy. He was aboard the USS Norris DDE 859, Desron 20 Hunter Killer Task Force for 4 years (1960-1964). He was on the Norris when it was called to act in the Cuban Quarantine Blockade Operation and when it was deployed to the Mediterranean to patrol the Red Sea during the Yemen Crisis (1962-1963). Walt was very proud to serve the US Navy.
When he was honorably discharged he met the love of his life, Fay. They had three beautiful children, Lisa, Lynn and his son, Wally, who was also his best friend. His greatest joy was his family. Walt was a man of simple pleasures. He enjoyed gardening, cooking Sunday dinners, baking, having family barbecues and having everyone around. He loved listening to the Oldies, reading, fishing, hunting, mushroom picking, working on Harley's and tinkering in the garage. He was always busy doing something, never resting when he should have been. All his adult life, he worked very hard for his family.
Walt was a quiet humble man who was known for his generosity. He will be remembered for his love for everyone, his stunning blue eyes, his smile and his kind ways.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Fay (Farrell) Rynkiewicz; children, Lisa Morrow, Lynn Barsh and husband Doug, Wally and wife Mary. His grandchildren who he cherished and was known as the Best POP; Eric Morrow and wife Sarah, Ryan and Ian Rynkiewicz, Lexy and Dougie Barsh and Jagar MacDonald. Brother, Lenny and wife Nora, many nieces and nephews and other family members.
Warm thanks to all his friends who were in his life throughout the years. A special thanks to Dr. Stanley Lobitz for being not only Walt's doctor, but his very good friend for many years. Thank you Carolyn for your kindness to Walt, he was very fond of you.
