Walter Makos, 90, of Sylvan Lake, Hunlock Creek, died early Thursday, August 31, 2023 in the VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna Mazur Makos and attended Plymouth schools. Walter served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal; Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was employed by Anthracite Marble and Tile, prior to retirement, as a Tilesetter and enjoyed restoring old cars. Walter loved spending time with his family, hunting and fishing. He was a member of All Saints Parish, the Bricklayers Unions and other civic and religious organizations.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Nice Makos; daughter Louise; siblings, Edward, Michael and Chester Makos, Mary Stretter, Florence Shaw and Sophie Kemtz.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Susan Bat and her husband, John of Nanticoke, Marlene Makos of Larksville; siblings, Joseph Makos of Conyngham, Ann Makos of Plymouth, Helen Dula of Plains; many nieces and nephews and his beloved companion dog, Lucy.
Funeral will be conducted on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 9:30 am from the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson Street, Larksville with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in All Saints Parish Church, 66 Willow Street, Plymouth. Reverend Gerald Gurka will officiate. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in St. Mary of the Nativity Cemetery, Plymouth.
Friends are invited to join the family from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, September 4, 2023 at the funeral home and Tuesday morning, from 9:00 am until time of service.
