Helen F. “Mickey” Fender, 83, of Larksville, passed away on her birthday, Monday, May 17, surrounded by family at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late James and Helen Cross Wright and was a graduate and Salutatorian of the Class of 1956, Larksville High School. Following graduation she became a paralegal for the Luzerne County Court system. Helen loved the Philadelphia Phillies, Penn State Football and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed going to the casinos; playing the lottery; watching NFL and playing Bingo. She was a member of the former St. Anthony's Church, and St. John the Baptist Church, both of Larksville. Helen made the National News in 1963 when she gave birth to her twins, Michael and Timothy on New Year's Day.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by sister, Rosemary Richards of Larksville.
Helen is survived by her loving husband, Joseph; sons: Joseph P. Fender, James G. Fender, both of Larksville; Timothy F. (Teresa) Fender of Plymouth; Michael A. (Barbara) Fender of Plymouth, John R. Fender of Larksville; grandchildren: Alyssa (Shayne) Bealla, Katlyn (Jason) Zmijewski, Joshua Mazurek, James J Fender and Joseph Spess; great-grandchildren: Adam, Alexis, Addison, Jacob, Lucas, Blake and Brexton and sisters: Nancy Perkowski and Patricia O'Konski.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 2:30 pm from the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, Inc,, 11 Wilson Street, Larksville with a Memorial Mass to follow at 3:00 pm in St. John the Baptist Church, Nesbitt Street, Larksville, with Reverend Gerald Gurka officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Courtdale.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation from 1:00 pm until time of service at the funeral home.
