FRANCIS WOLMAN Obituary

Francis H. Wolman, 94, formerly of Larksville and Kingston, died Friday, February 21, 2020 in Wilkes-Barre.

 

Born in Larksville, he was the son of the late Theodore Wolman, Anna Drugach and step mother, Catherine Drugach Tomasak and was a graduate of Larksville High School, Class of 1943. Following graduation, he served his country proudly, in the United States Army, training in Wales and England as a Tank Destroyer Replacement. He served with the 899th Tank Destroyer Unit and the 9thInfantry Division and served in the following battles: D-Day; Utah Beach; Battle of the Bulge; Remagen Bridge; Hurtgen Forrest; Liberation of France and Liberation of Belgium. His unit was assigned to many different army divisions as needed and fought in the entire European Theater of War. He was the recipient of the ETO Ribbon with 5 battle stars, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, Presidential Unit Citation with 2 clusters, Belgain Fouragere with / second Award and French Croix de Guerre. 

 

Following his Military service, he was active with many Patriotic Programs, including for the students at the State Street Elementary School. Mr. Wolman was a member of the American Legion Post 655, Larksville, from December 1945 to present (Post which was founded by his Uncle Henry Wolman); was elected as Commander of Post 655 in 1998 and served as Post Chaplin. 

 

Being a man of great faith, he was a former member of St. Hedwigs Church; a member of St. Ignatius Church and member of the Father Walter Ciszek, SJ Prayer League, for his Canonization.

 

Prior to retirement, Francis was a Mail-handler for the US Postal Service, enjoyed doing yard work and watching sports.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his loving wife, Florence Bucikowski in 2004; son, Francis W. Wolman; siblings, Theodore Wolman and Lucille Walsh; step siblings, Theresa Swedo and Peter Tomasek.

 

He is survived by his daughters, Janice (Michael) Pascucci of Conway, SC; Sandra (David) Humenansky of Orwigsburg; 7 grandchildren, Carole Ann, Colleen, Christopher, Kelly, Stacey, Amy and David; great grandchildren, Ryan, Jeremy, Adam, Theo, Sarah Margaret, Brian, Sierra; siblings, William Wolman, Dolores Cembrock, Anna Stefanko, Geraldine Brady, Rosemarie Stelma and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral service will be conducted on Friday, February 28, 2020, at 10:00 am from the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St. Larksville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am, in St. Ignatius Church, 339 N. Maple Ave., Kingston. Reverend Joseph Mosley will officiate. Interment will follow, with Military Honors, in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

 

Friends are welcome to join the family for a visitation from 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, February 27, 2020 and from 9:30 am until time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
