Walter Watkins, 84, of Courtdale, passed away at home Tuesday, March 6.
Born in Larksville, he was the son of the late Robert and Bertha Watkins. He worked in the construction industry as a surveyor and was proud of his work on many local landmarks.
He married his love, Anna, on Christmas Eve in 1955. They celebrated 58 years of marriage together here, until Anna was called to Heaven in 2014. A piece of him has been missing since that time, and there is comfort knowing that they are reunited together at last.
Walter was proud of his family, especially his daughter Susan and son Walt, though he had his own unique way of showing it at times. Once he became a grandfather, there was a noticeable change in his tough exterior, and he became a loving Pop-Pop to his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He valued the closeness of his extended family greatly, and he will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anna, as well as siblings Robert, Edward, Madge, Florence, and an infant sister.
Surviving are his loving children, Susan Nat and her fiancée, Rick Besancon, Edwardsville, and Walt Watkins and his wife, Colette, Courtdale. Walter is also survived by his four grandchildren, Sarah Brown and her husband, Brett, Shavertown; Matt Watkins and his wife Melissa, West Wyoming; Nick Watkins, Philadelphia, and Rob Nat. Walter is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Dylan, Bella, and Dominik. He is also survived by his brothers William Watkins and his wife, Lois; John (Jack) Watkins; sister Agnes Carey, and sister-in-law Pat Watkins. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Sharon Davis, her husband Glenn, and their son Justin, and Stacey Samuels, her husband Klint, and their daughter Erika and her fiancée Frank (Jay). He will also be sorely missed by his lifelong friend, James Fisher, who literally grew up with Walter.
