JOHN BRUNO

January 15, 2018

John Bruno, 98, of Wilkes-Barre, formerly of Edwardsville, passed away peacefully Monday, January 15, 2018, in River Street Manor, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in West Bangor, PA, John moved to the area as a young man and settled in Larksville before moving to his permanent home in Edwardsville where he spent his entire life.

Preceding him in death was his wife of 50 years, Ann Edwards Bruno and sister Mary Basilio.

He is survived by his two sons, Robert Bruno and his wife, Peggy of Plains; John and his wife, Gwen of Plymouth; grandchildren, Scott, Carrie Langdon, Bob and Jennifer; three great grandchildren, Jordan, Morgan and Cole.  John loved Sundays when all the family would gather at his house for the traditional Sunday dinner, prepared by daughters in law, Gwen and Peggy.  His family meant everything to him.

John joined the service in 1942 and in the 1944 was part of the Allies D Day Invasion of Europe.  He was assigned to General George Pattons Third Army, 6th Armored Division 86th Cavalry Reconnaissance Mechanized Division. Their Motto being First to the Fight.  His unit suffered heavy casualties, but survived to fight in other battles, such as the Battle of the Bulge, Battle of Worms, the Brest to Bastogne and Battle at Rhine River. He earned the Bronze Star of Valor; Purple Heart and Presidential Citation. He was truly part of Americans Greatest Generation.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 11:00 am at Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St. Larksville.  Reverend Dr. Paul C. Amara will be officiating.

Interment will follow in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Family and friends may call from 9 to 11 am on Saturday at the funeral home.

At this time, our family would like to thank Joe Anistranski for working so hard in obtaining our dads long over due Bronze Star.  You gave him his day in the sun.  His house was filled with newspaper and TV reporters.  He was front page news and the top story that day on TV.  A day he never forgot, when Representative Paul Kanjorski awarded him his medal in person in his home.  He felt like celebrity that day.

To all the doctors and nurses who cared from our dad though out his long life, Thank You.

A special thank you to all the nurses, aids and staff at River Street Manor for the compassion, care and love you showed our dad thought out his stay.  You truly are angels and do not get enough credit for the devoted care you give to all the residents. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  The John Bruno Family.

Boop Boop for the last time.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to the Plains United Methodist Church, 133 North Main St. Plains or Blue Chip Animal Resuce, 974 Lockville Rd, Dallas, PA 18612
