David M. Monka, 78, of Edwardsville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family, Tuesday evening, April 18, 2017 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
Born in Exeter, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Vavrick Monko, and was a graduate of Exeter High School where he excelled in athletics. Dave was employed as a supervisor for Kuharchik Construction and was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Larksville and Emanon Country Club, Falls. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and loved to golf. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and going to the casino with his wife.
Dave loved spending time on the greens playing golf in leagues and tournaments. He had won many local and regional tournaments and was a mentor to many golfers, in the Wyoming Valley.
He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his sister, Beatrice Roman.
David is survived by his loving wife, the former Patricia M. Plevel; sons, David and his wife, Lori, Swoyersville; Richard and his wife, Dawnne, Lancaster; Gary and his wife, Dawn, Gilbertsville; 4 grandchildren, Steven, Hannah, Madison and Logan; siblings, Cyril Monko, Luzerne; Frank Monka, Cleveland, TN; Joseph Monka, Luzerne, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 10:00 am from the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson Street, Larksville with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. John the Baptist Church, 126 Nesbitt St. Larksville. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the funeral home or from 9:30 am until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution could be made to Celtic Hospice, 601 Wyoming Ave., Kingston or St John the Baptist Church, 126 Nesbitt St., Larksville.
