Francis “Frank” Joyce, 77, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017, surrounded by loving family.
Born November 3, 1939 , in Courtdale, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late. William and Anna Joyce. Frank attended school in Edwardsville, Pennsylvania.
Frank enlisted in the Army in 1963, and served in the 1st Armored Division at Fort Hood Texas. After being honorably discharged from the Army 1965, Frank was employed with Bell Telephone Company for 35 years. During that time, he served as president of The Local CWA 1300 Union.
Frank was an active member of his community. He served as president of Back Mountain Little League and was an active member of St. Ann’s Parish in Luzerne. Frank enjoyed reading, hiking, traveling, genealogy and going out to dinner with his wife, Joan.
Frank is survived by his wife, Joan Hodle Joyce, whom he married on October 15, 1966; daughter Joan Joyce; sons, Frank and Terrance Joyce; sisters, Ann “Nancy” Matson, Katherine Stencik, Agnes Unice, Theresa Schobert; brother Thomas and their families. Frank is survived by many nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Frank was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers William and James Joyce and nephew Wayne.
Frank’s Funeral service will be on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 9:30 am from the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St. Larksville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Holy Family Church, 574 Bennett St. Luzerne. Reverend Joseph Elston will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery, Old Route 115, Lehman Township.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, April 6, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made in Frank's name to Celtic Hospice Inpatient Unit, Geisinger South Hospital, 25 Church Street, Wilkes-Barre PA, 18702.
